Our Background

At House-Spy we have over 36 years experience in the building industry, including commercial, new residential building and high end residential renovations and alterations.

Robert Visser, the principal building inspector, commenced his building apprenticeship in 1979, gaining Trade Certificate and Advanced Trade Certificate in Building and Construction. Since completing his apprenticeship, Robert has worked in:

  • Commercial building (including dairy company projects)
  • Boat Building
  • New residential
  • Residential renovations and alterations
  • Project management in New Zealand and oversees

Robert Visser formed Visser Building Developments Limited in 1989. The focus of Visser Building Developments (VBD) has been on high end architectural residential renovation building work. The work undertaken by VBD has required close working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and sub-contractors to ensure a result that exceeds the client's and professional's expectations. While working on multiple projects, Robert and his building teams have earned a reputation for high quality workmanship and project management skills. These skills are now utilised in House-spy's thorough and professional approach to building inspections.

While performing building inspections since 1998 under the VBD banner, House-spy Building Inspections was launched in 2008 to establish an independent identity for the building inspection side of the business. Our continuing involvement in the building industry enables us to remain up to date with building regulations and developments/issues with building construction and materials, and building good practice.
